We do our best to live our values. Many of us use our money as a tool for social and environmental change; many are from long traditions of activism and non-violence; most have made dramatic lifestyle changes. And right now, many of us are struggling to get by.
We often grapple with feelings of hopelessness and despair, since we’re keenly aware of the magnitude of the problems the world is facing. I know how crippling these feelings can be.
My story begins with two middle-aged people who have just become homeless. We follow them on their journey to sharing a squat, and join them in their adventures. We also follow the stories of some of the people whose lives they touch.
My hope is that this book will provide some inspiration, a few good ideas, and validation of the people who work so hard to make this world a better place. No one can promise a bright future, but the more we do to heal ourselves, each other and our planet, the better our chances of creating the kind of world we want to leave to future generations.
I want to thank everyone for what they contribute from the bottom of my heart. I salute your tenacity, creativity and resilience. Whatever the solutions are, I look forward to discovering and implementing them with you.
So much of life feels like a big gaping wound right now, and we’re all tending to different parts of it. I’ll close with the footer to my e-mails, since it’s the sentiment that drove me to write this book: May all paths lead to healing.
